Our Host Home Program matches homeless teens in need of housing with volunteers in the community. The volunteer host opens their heart and home to provide housing, food, and guidance while our teens work towards self-sustainability. During this time, TPGH actively mentors these teens to help them achieve their educational, career, and personal goals.
Home Host Program
How The Host Home Program Works:
Interested youth complete an application and undergo an intake assessment and interview to determine their needs, goals, and whether the program is a good fit for them. All youth in the program must be committed to at least one goal such as counseling, GED, school, or employment.
Youth that qualify then choose a host from our pool of approved homes. Throughout the duration of their participation in the Host Home Program, The Pink Giraffe House continues to work with the youth to provide mentorship, assist them in achieving their goals, and ensure they are able to make the most of this opportunity.
As volunteers of the program, adults open their homes and their hearts to young people who need and are looking for a healthy and stable connection, in addition to basic needs. This experience of sharing resources and lives is challenging and powerful, both for the youth and hosts. There is nothing easy about this. As we often say when describing this process, it can be messy and magical.
We appreciate that hosting is a big commitment, but it’s a commitment that can have an enormous impact in a young person’s life and in the community as a whole.
A host should be capable of providing a private room, food, guidance, and encouragement.
The Pink Giraffe House will provide program funding to cover other costs or services required to achieve a teen’s goals. The Pink Giraffe House provides training for prospective hosts and on-going, 24/7 support to ensure both youth and host are satisfied with the Host Home Program experience.
